APC10, 2010 Special Education Workshop:

Preparing Students for a Changing World – Permaculture
in Whole School Environment Management Plans


Date: Saturday 25th September, Candlenut Steiner School, Boyles Road, Kuranda.
Time: 10am – 4pm

Outcomes:

Upon completion of the one-day workshop teachers will have a working definition of Permaculture.
Teachers will be able to:

• Design a whole school site plan and garden at an appropriate scale for their school, community needs and capabilities.

• Use Permaculture design science to develop a School Environment Management Plan, and develop a sustainable implementation plan from a range of approaches in use across Australia.

• Provide practical applied learning opportunities that cater to diverse learning needs and reinforce the Queensland K-10 Essential Learning curriculum.

• Design Permaculture-based investigations into efficient resource use in the everyday world by developing scientific thinking skills that support the Science Spark Initiative (i.e. the five ‘E’s’ – Engage; Elaborate; Explore; Explain and Evaluate); and

• Have an understanding of Permaculture education opportunities outside the school gate: outdoor education; Accredited and non-accredited Training in Permaculture and related fields.

Costs:
Workshop registration fee for registered teachers is $80 per teacher per day;
$65 student teachers in training;

Workshop includes lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea provided at the APC10 kitchen. Access to all activities,
speakers, workshops, Permi-bubs childcare, and Permi-kids activities included.
