Viable farming – viable communities workshop

Easing the transition for farmers to become profitable, viable and truly sustainable is the theme of a day long series of workshops at a major conference on the Tablelands in September.

A series of guests including a former Governor General of Australia will be presenting a series of presentations ranging from livestock and dairy, pasture and cropping, food distribution supply chains, biological fertilisers and water management at the event.

The workshop is supported by NRM group Terrain and Northern Gulf Resource

Australian Icon to visit Cairns

Australian of the Year nominee Tasmanian Senior Citizen of the Year in 2010, and national icon, Bill Mollison, is coming to Cairns to attend a major permaculture conference in September 24-27 at the Candlenut Steiner School, Kuranda.

Co-founder of permaculture, Mr. Mollison, 82, is still travelling, teaching, consulting and thinking of intelligent designs for homes, business and farms that provide for their own needs, do not pollute, and are sustainable.

Growing green thumbs to prepare our children for a changing world.

Preparing students for a changing world is the theme of a professional development workshop for school teachers to be hosted during the Australasian Permaculture Convergence (APC10) on September 25.

This workshop will be led by Australia’s leading school garden designers and educators Janet Millington and Carolyn Nuttall. Read more



Survivors of the Kinglake Bushfire tragedy come to share what they learnt at APC10

Daryl Taylor together with his partner Lucy and 9-year old daughter Maggie, lost their house, businesses and jobs in the Victorian bushfire tragedy and are sharing what they have learnt with communities around Australia and the world. Read more



Sustainable architecture featured workshop at APC10

Building with natural, local resources, creatively designed towards a mortgage-free home is the goal of a sustainable architecture workshop at the upcoming permaculture conference in September.

Irish architect and eco-builder Peter Cowman has been a regular visitor to Australia since 2007 and will be visiting the far north to run workshops on sustainable house design. Read more
